THE CHALLENGES

Library of Congress US Copyright Office required software development services for the online Virtual Card Catalog (VCC) found at vcc.copyright.com. The virtual card catalog contains images of card drawers and card images that are digitized versions of the physical copies found in the physical card catalog. The Proof-of-Concept Virtual Card Catalog contains records from 1870-1977.

The purpose is to provide the public with a glimpse of the digitized card catalog and to solicit feedback.

THE SOLUTION

KSA development team provides software development services, data management services, Agile DevSecOps, and Data analytics as a prime contractor to the project. The team use practices such as CI/CD, Feature Driven Development (FDD), Pair programming, XP, implemented SCRUM Agile Process, in a series of 1-week sprints.

We use WordPress, Python, JavaScript, AJAX HTML/CSS, MongoDB, MySQL, RabbitMQ, and Docker, technologies to provide search, browse, display of collections content, program information, and provide the database, support management for the web app.

KEY TAKE AWAY

  • KSA designs, develop, and maintain Virtual Card Catalog (VCC) – a web application to make available 41 million digitized historical records of copyrights dating from 1870.
  • With strong ethics, smooth relations, and effective communication priorities with sub-contractors, KSA’s USCO VCC program is on time and within budget.
  • The project is 508 compliant. KSA’s VCC 508 test scan performed on Sprints has resulted in more than 89% in Sprint of April 2018 and has only been gotten better since.
